Michael Donnell Jones: Killed in Unprovoked Police Shooting

Bobby DiCello represents the family of Michael Donnell Jones, a 54-year-old father of 8 who was shot and killed by police after being ordered out of a rented U-Haul at a gas station.

On August 17, 2024, in Akron, Ohio, police officers approached Jones in his rented truck, which had been reported stolen after Jones failed to return the vehicle on the agreed-upon date.  When informed he was under arrest, Jones asked: “For what?”

The incident was captured on surveillance and police body camera video, which shows officers attempting to pull Jones from a rented U-Haul truck and an ensuing struggle that ends with the officers shooting Jones, dragging him from the truck, and handcuffing him before he died at the scene.

Jones’ children are devastated by what the video shows as their father’s final moments. They are struggling to understand why the officers leapt into the truck, why they tased him, and why they shot him, especially when he made no threats toward them of any kind.

Bobby is representing the family in their quest for justice for their father. Bobby and the family want to make sure that the City of Akron holds the officers involved accountable for their excessively violent actions.
